This weekend, the Melbourne Football Club are excited to launch the ‘Welcome Game’, at the MCG against the St. Kilda Football Club. We are not just looking forward to extending an invitation to all supporters who love the game of AFL football, but also taking the opportunity to introduce our great game to those who have never been to a game before, or who know very little about it.

The game will be a great opportunity to celebrate our diverse community and rich multicultural heritage by welcoming those from all different backgrounds, as well as all visitors to Melbourne, to the MCG and the game of football.

In addition, on the day we’ll be celebrating everything that is great about the city of Melbourne – not just it’s diversity, but it’s food, culture and sport as well.

The Melbourne Football Club have given away 20,000 tickets to this game to schools and multicultural communities, so if your school have received their tickets, we encourage you to come along with your family to the game on Sunday.

The National Sports Museum, located at Gate 3 of the MCG will be open from 10am on the day and, don’t forget, as with all our Sunday Funday games, kids under the age of 15 will get in for FREE!

From 11am we will be cooking up a sausage sizzle and you will have the opportunity to join in a range of activities, including

  • multicultural music and entertainment.
  • For those who are new to the game a ‘Hands on Footy’ set up
  • face painting
  • a special international flag parade at half time and heaps more!

There will be a kick to kick on the MCG after the game (weather permitting) plus heaps of other family activities.

The Melbourne Football Club believe that Australian Football is a game for everyone to enjoy – so we warmly invite you to come along to the ‘Welcome Game’ and join us on Sunday to experience and learn a bit about the great game of Australian Rules Football, and have a fantastic day out with your families!
